Job Title: Credit Controller
Location: Based near Carlisle

Salary: Up to £30,000
The Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Credit Controller to join a busy and supportive Debt Recovery team within a well-established professional services organisation. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building client relationships, working with financial data, and playing a key role in maintaining effective credit control processes. You will work closely with internal teams and clients to support debt recovery activities while helping to improve procedures and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to facilitate payment arrangements and resolve billing queries
- Monitor outstanding invoices and client debt, ensuring payment terms are adhered to
- Communicate with clients via telephone, email, text, and written correspondence to recover outstanding payments
- Produce and maintain regular Excel reports outlining client debt status for internal stakeholders
- Monitor and update payment activity within internal systems, including daily reporting on overdue invoices
- Process client payments and support departmental banking and reconciliation processes
- Issue client statements and manage long-standing debt, including escalation procedures and stop processes
- Liaise with internal departments to gather information and ensure credit control procedures are followed
- Provide administrative support, including post handling, filing, and reporting
- Support service growth by promoting debt recovery services where appropriate
About You
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above)
- Previous experience providing administrative support within an office environment
- Experience in credit control, debt recovery, or accounting (desirable but not essential)
- Strong numerical skills and confidence working with financial data
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to prioritise workload, use initiative, and work as part of a team
- Professional and friendly approach with the ability to build strong working relationships
- Willingness to learn and develop within a credit control role
