About the role
An opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop multiple high-performing software engineering teams, delivering reliable, scalable and innovative technology solutions that support business objectives. This role suits a people-focused leader, comfortable operating across several teams and balancing day-to-day delivery with long-term technical direction. The Engineering Manager creates an environment of accountability, technical excellence and psychological safety, while ensuring alignment with product and business priorities. Working closely with Product and other stakeholders, the role operates within a 3 Amigos model, fostering strong collaboration between engineering, product and delivery with shared ownership of outcomes.
What the role involves
- Leading and managing multiple software engineering teams, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across squads.
- Owning team capacity, prioritisation and resource planning, balancing business demand with sustainable delivery.
- Removing single points of failure through effective skills planning, cross-team collaboration and succession planning.
- Setting clear performance expectations and managing development plans, progression, promotions and feedback.
- Recruiting, coaching and developing engineers at varying stages of their careers, with a strong focus on engagement and retention.
- Creating a culture of trust, accountability and psychological safety where teams are empowered to perform at their best.
- Working closely with Product and Delivery partners within a 3 Amigos framework to align technical execution with product intent.
- Ensuring timely delivery of software solutions while balancing speed, quality, technical debt and long-term maintainability.
- Acting as a senior stakeholder in technology planning, contributing to roadmaps, architectural direction and longer-term strategy.
- Driving continuous improvement by learning from delivery challenges and implementing meaningful change across teams.
- Supporting the adoption of new tools, technologies and ways of working where they add clear value.
- Managing conflict constructively to maintain strong team dynamics and an inclusive culture.
- Ensuring technology decisions consider customer outcomes, including the needs of vulnerable customers, while meeting security and regulatory expectations.
What the successful candidate will bring
- Essential experience managing multiple engineering teams in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- A strong software engineering background, with credibility to lead technical discussions and guide teams effectively.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop engineers at different levels, with a genuine commitment to people development.
- Experience delivering complex technology initiatives while balancing delivery pressure with quality and sustainability.
- A solid understanding of modern engineering practices, including Agile delivery, CI/CD, DevOps and cloud-based platforms.
- Confidence operating within a 3 Amigos working model, collaborating closely with Product and Delivery.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A calm, structured and resilient leadership style, comfortable navigating ambiguity and change.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability, focused on business and customer outcomes.

- Full-time role: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
