Location: Sellafield
Salary: Circa £79,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience) plus car allowance or company vehicle
Working Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week. Office‑based 5 days per week during probation, with the option to apply for 1 day WFH thereafter.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to support the Sellafield IDP project, providing leadership and assurance across engineering activities for both work‑winning and project delivery teams.
This is a senior technical role responsible for leading the engineering function within the sector/region, ensuring projects deliver contracted scope with the highest levels of technical expertise, safety, quality and collaboration.
The successful candidate will oversee engineering competence, promote innovation and best practice, and help build an environment that attracts, develops and retains talented engineers to support the present and future needs of the business.
You will act as the lead assurance figure across design, construction, commissioning and handover, and undertake duties of CDM Principal Designer. You will ensure the latest engineering developments, technology, innovations and methods are considered and implemented throughout bid and construction stages.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the engineering function across the sector/region.
• Oversee competence assessment of direct reports, engineering staff, subcontract engineers and other technical personnel.
• Ensure health, safety, welfare, environment and quality are embedded as core design principles at all stages.
• Provide clear communication of design decisions and outcomes to construction and operational teams.
• Ensure projects deliver contracted scope and company objectives using strong technical expertise and collaborative working.
• Promote innovation, alternative designs, engineering methods and new technologies to deliver value engineering solutions.
• Support recruitment, development and retention of engineering talent across the business.
• Lead assurance activities across design, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Undertake duties of CDM Principal Designer.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of engineering developments, technology, innovations, temporary and permanent works best practice.
• Ensure engineering considerations are fully integrated at bid stage and throughout construction.
Objectives
Objectives will focus on delivering high‑quality engineering assurance, embedding safety and quality in design, supporting project delivery teams, driving innovation, strengthening engineering capability, and ensuring projects meet contractual and technical requirements.
Skills and Experience
• Degree‑qualified in an infrastructure engineering discipline.
• Incorporated Engineer in Civil Engineering or similar, approved by Principal Engineer.
• Substantial construction and design experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Contractor.
• Strong understanding of Conditions of Contract and project‑specific amendments.
• Familiarity with Client engineering policies, procedures, approval processes and gated project systems.
• Understanding of nuclear site licence conditions and Client platforms/applications.
• Experience leading engineering teams and assessing technical competence.
• Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to promote innovation and deliver value engineering solutions.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Proactive, technically strong and collaborative approach to work.
