The Opportunity
Carr’s Billington Agriculture is a leading agricultural supplies and machinery business, supporting farming communities with equipment, services, and expertise across the UK. The Machinery Division plays a key role in delivering commercial performance, operational excellence, and customer-focused solutions across sales, service, and support functions. The Head of Operations will be responsible for the commercial and operational leadership of the Machinery Division, managing and developing all systems, processes, and transactional finance arrangements for the division. The role holds overall accountability for operational performance and the Sales Department budget, while directly leading the head office team and supporting regional and depot operations. This is a hands-on role. In addition to providing leadership and direction, the postholder will actively manage operational systems, processes, reporting, and coordination activities on a day-to-day basis. The role is central to driving performance and operational excellence across the Machinery Division, ensuring alignment with dealer standards, financial controls, and strategic business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Systems, Processes & Operational Control
• Full system management and support for operating system: Ibcos Gold
• Provide solutions for changing business needs and support leadership team to achieve business objectives
• Lead operational continuous improvement across systems and ways of working
• Oversee systems access and management for manufacturer platforms
• Champion electronic sales processes including CRM and other systems, ensuring compliance
Sales, Performance & Commercial Support
• Drive sales performance and support a high-performing Machinery team
• Provide direct support to Regional Sales Managers, including menu pricing and sales growth initiatives
• Take accountability for Machinery Sales budget and performance monitoring
• Support bonus management and monthly claim reviews
• Oversee commission control, reporting, and ongoing commercial suitability reviews
Stock, Reporting & Operational Control
• Develop, monitor, and report on e-commerce stock status for new and used machinery, including drop ship orders
• Take accountability for stock optimisation projects, stock requisitions, and stock checks
• Ensure clear and timely reporting is delivered to key stakeholders
• Continuously review operational arrangements to ensure efficiency and commercial effectiveness
People, Leadership & Development
• Lead, coach, and develop the Machinery Admin Team to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery
• Conduct regular 1-2-1s, appraisals, and performance reviews, supporting development and addressing performance gaps
• Regularly engage with employees across the division to ensure alignment, understanding, and delivery of objectives
• Support depot managers with new depot sales integration and induction processes
• Identify and address training needs across the division to meet dealer standards
Cross-Functional & Business Support
• Act as the key link between Head Office support functions including Finance, IT, and Marketing
• Work with Brand Manager to implement demo and hire processes, including live tracking of on-farm equipment
• Work with regional and depot managers to implement and centralise haulage systems
• Support continuous improvement of central support functions and operational processes
Governance, Compliance & Standards
• Ensure adherence to Company and Group policies and procedures including Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and approved codes of practice, including UFAS, FIAS, and NOPS assurance schemes
• Maintain high standards of operational governance and compliance across all activities
About you
Essential Skills
• Experience of building relationships with and supporting sales teams
• Proven experience identifying and implementing process efficiencies across departments
• Strong leadership capability with experience managing and developing teams
• Strong communication skills across all levels of a business
• Strong organisational and project management abilities
• Understanding of stock management, budgeting, and commercial control
• Ability to work cross-functionally across multiple business areas
Desirable Skills
• Experience with Ibcos Gold or similar agricultural machinery systems
• Familiarity with manufacturer dealer standards (e.g. AGCO, Yamaha)
• Experience managing CRM systems and/or D365 integrations
• Experience supporting or developing online or e-commerce sales channels
