Group HR Manager

Location: Carlisle, Cumbria (on-site, with occasional travel to other group sites as needed)

Hours: 39 hours per week
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Car Allowance
Holidays: 24 days + bank holidays (April–March leave year)
Pension: 4% employee / 4% employer
Cubby Group is a newly formed group bringing together 14 complementary businesses including construction, civil engineering, rail infrastructure, plant hire, utilities, and more. With around 350 employees across multiple UK locations, the new structure brings financial stability and shared operational resources. This role is a key leadership position in shaping the future of the group’s HR function.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Group HR Manager to join the Carlisle office on a permanent basis. If you are looking for multi-site role where you can start a HR function from scratch, supported by a people first culture, then this role is for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assessing the HR, People and Culture needs of the newly formed group both in the short and long term
- Setting the HR function up for success and developing both the HR strategy and operational plans
- Ensure compliance with employment law across all current practices
- Reviewing, developing and maintaining HR policies, processes, and systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiencies are met
- Partner with operational leaders with employee relations, performance, and engagement
- Lead initiatives that strengthen organisational culture, embed core values, and promote employee growth and development.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to shape people-focused strategies that support growth and stability
About You
- Experienced HR professional with strong operational and strategic skills
- Practical experience with Sage HR is strongly preferred or equivalent HRIS
- Confident leading a standalone function and developing initiatives across multiple businesses
- Positive, collaborative, and values-driven leadership style
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build credibility at all levels
