Role: Software Tester
Salary: Up to £33,000 depending on experience
Location: Cumbria (Hybrid – approx. 2 days per month in office)

We’re recruiting a Software Tester to join a collaborative agile team, working on innovative insurance technology solutions that support leading comparison partners across annuities, life, and travel insurance.
This is a hands-on role within a multi-disciplined QA function, where you’ll contribute to testing industry-leading customer journeys and play a key role in ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple products and platforms.
The Role
This is a comprehensive testing role covering manual testing, quality assurance processes, and collaboration across agile squads. You’ll be responsible for ensuring software quality through structured testing practices, early defect detection, and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, writing, and maintaining high-quality test cases aligned to best practices
- Translating business and technical requirements into clear, testable scenarios
- Creating and maintaining test documentation including plans, cases, and execution evidence
- Executing a range of testing types including system, integration, regression, exploratory, accessibility, and data validation
- Validating changes across UAT, staging, and live environments
- Identifying, documenting, and managing defects using tools such as Jira
- Collaborating with Test Leads to plan and deliver testing activities
- Participating in Three Amigos sessions to improve requirements and testability
- Contributing to agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives
- Taking a proactive approach to quality, focusing on risk prevention
- Considering customer needs, including vulnerable customers, in testing approaches
- Keeping up to date with emerging tools, technologies, and testing methods
- Supporting continuous improvement of QA processes and practices
About You
- We are looking for a detail-oriented Software Tester with experience in structured testing environments and a strong understanding of QA principles.
- You’re likely to bring:
- Proven experience in software testing or quality assurance roles
- Strong understanding of testing methodologies and the SDLC
- Experience in manual testing with awareness of automation approaches
- Knowledge of API testing and validating service/data responses
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and CI/CD pipelines (desirable)
- Experience testing across browsers, devices, and operating systems
- Awareness of accessibility and inclusive design principles
- ISTQB certification or working towards it (desirable)

Additional Information
- Full-time, Monday–Friday (37.5 hours per week)
- Hybrid working with office attendance in Cumbria approximately twice per month
- Travel expenses provided depending on location
