Role: Buyer – Meat Operations

Location: Cumbria

Salary: Up to £35K

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm with flexibility to meet customer requirements and some Saturday working. 40 hours.

Role Overview

We are seeking a commercially focused and driven Buyer to join the Fresh Department, taking responsibility for the sourcing and purchasing of meat products whilst ensuring the department delivers strong sales, profitability and quality standards.

This is a key commercial role, responsible for managing supplier relationships, identifying market opportunities, negotiating pricing and supporting the continued growth of the meat category.

The successful candidate will work proactively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to maintain a competitive product range, maximise margin performance and ensure excellent product availability and service levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and purchase fresh meat products to meet business requirements.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing, availability and promotional opportunities.

• Manage pricing and margin performance to maximise profitability whilst remaining competitive within the market.

• Monitor market trends, product availability and customer demand to identify commercial opportunities.

• Manage and develop the meat product range to ensure it meets customer and business requirements.

• Work closely with the Production team to ensure product specifications, quality standards and supply requirements are achieved.

• Liaise with Sales teams to communicate product availability, promotions and upselling opportunities.

• Oversee stock takes and stock control processes.

• Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and traceability standards across the supply chain.

• Support the Fresh Department in delivering sales growth, profitability and continuous improvement initiatives.

Objectives will focus on driving sales growth, improving gross profit performance, developing supplier relationships, maintaining a competitive product range, ensuring product availability and supporting continuous improvement across the Fresh Department.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in a meat buying or purchasing role, ideally within the foodservice, wholesale or food manufacturing sector.

• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing pricing, margins and supplier negotiations.

• Good knowledge of fresh meat products, suppliers and market trends.

• Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Analytical approach with strong attention to detail and the ability to identify commercial opportunities.

• Ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

• Experience working with stock control, product range management and purchasing systems.

• Confident using Microsoft Office and internal business systems.

• Proactive and commercially focused approach to work.

Together, we're looking for an HR & Payroll Assistant to support the HR function and the end-to-end payroll process.

This is a hands-on, operational role, suited to someone who enjoys detail, structure and balancing payroll deadlines with day-to-day HR administration in a busy, operational environment.

The Role

The role supports the full end-to-end payroll cycle along with HR Administration including:

• Overtime and variable pay calculations

• Supporting data collection and validation for engineering payroll

• Liaising with managers to resolve payroll queries and discrepancies

• Supporting pre- and post-payroll checks

• Employee lifecycle administration (starters, leavers, changes)

• Maintaining HR and payroll records

• Responding to routine HR and pay queries

• Supporting compliance with policies and processes

Payroll is processed in-house using Zellis, supporting a workforce with a mix of standard and variable pay arrangements. Approximately two weeks of each month are focused on payroll activity, with the remainder of time dedicated to HR administration and employee support. This is a delivery-focused role rather than advisory or strategic, with strong emphasis on accuracy, consistency and confidentiality.

About You

You’ll be someone with experience in payroll administration who enjoys working with detail, structure and clear monthly deadlines. You’re comfortable supporting payroll activity and take pride in getting things right, particularly where accuracy really matters to employees.

You may already have experience supporting end-to-end payroll, or you might currently be involved in key stages of the payroll process and keen to develop this further. Exposure to payroll systems such as Zellis would be helpful, though not essential, and you’ll be comfortable working with variable pay elements such as overtime and shift-based pay.

Alongside payroll, you’ll be happy supporting day-to-day HR administration, keeping records up to date and responding to routine queries. You’re organised, reliable and approachable, with a calm, methodical way of working especially during busier payroll periods.

This role would suit someone who enjoys a hands-on, supportive position within HR, and who values consistency, collaboration and developing their experience within a structured environment.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) within the Engineering Team at CCL Secure, Wigton.

CCL Secure are the manufacturers of Guardian©, the world's most sophisticated banknote substrate. Since 1988 they have supplied over 40 central banks across more than 80 denominations. The company operates three manufacturing sites based in the UK, Australia, and Mexico. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this role will support the current multi-skilled engineering team in maintaining a modern plant, while playing a pivotal role in driving process improvements across the site. The role operates on a 12 hour rotating shift pattern (6am - 6pm / 6pm - 6am), working a 38 hour week within a continuous manufacturing environment. There is no scheduled weekend working within the standard shift pattern, however overtime at weekends is available when required.

You will take part in projects and deliver a high standard of maintenance across a variety of modern plant, equipment, and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure plant and equipment is maintained to enable: Equipment meets all safety and regulatory requirements. Equipment runs at budgeted level of machine uptime
• Equipment runs at budgeted spoilage and output
• Ensure that maintenance and electrical duties are carried out to: Ensure all safety requirements are met when working with machinery and/or chemicals. Ensure Hazardous area requirements are met including installations, PM’s and dossier
• Maintain plant and equipment to exceptional standards
• Ensure work orders and Planned Maintenance are carried out within set timeframes
• Attend and repair breakdowns within set timeframes
• Escalate problems that are creating excess downtime
• Re-design and modify plant and machinery to maximise production outputs
• Ensure that detailed information is entered into the Maintenance System, including detailed history and downtime
• Carry out mechanical maintenance duties as required
• Take part in analysis of maintenance, electrical, mechanical and breakdown history to ensure the PM schedule is aligned to breakdown history
• Manage or take part in team or individual projects when required

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Engineering qualification; HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with industrial experience
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
• Experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
• Proven problem solving and analytical skills
• Good working knowledge of key manufacturing processes
• Adaptability, openness and honesty
• Strong teamwork and communication skills

Desirable:

• Mechanical knowledge of industrial plant and equipment
• Hazardous Areas COMPEX 1–4 Qualification
• Mechanical training will be provided where gaps in knowledge are identified for the right applicant
